The end of print is here. The future of commercial photography that should be called “multimedia” is here tomorrow, around the corner. The tablets will change what is expected from magazines that are getting ready to unite the best of print with the best of the web. Still moving images. Take a pick to the work by Alexx Henry for the iPad (browse through the various displays and videos) and look at the making of the live cover of Outside Magazine in the video bellow.
If you wonder how this will – may – change also fine art photography take a pick to this amazing 2.5 D image taken with a Cannon 5D.

I wonder who will be expected to pick up the greater costs producing video/animations?
The Living Magazine shoot had a bigger crew than a usual editorial shoot (well at least here in the UK).
Yes, I agree. This is going to be a challenge for magazines … I guess they will need to re-balance the cost of print distribution vs digital and the cost of still photography vs multimedia. Some will be able to adapt to the new market place, others will not … in addition not everyone like to have multimedia to read the news … sometimes it is preferable to have still images, that are less intrusive for the viewer … I can see both formats living along together but great opportunities for photographers who master the use of multimedia.

Miguel
