For the last few months I have been inviting people to visit my apartment and allow me to photograph them in a very intimate space, my bathroom. I have also been inviting them to take a shower as I continue to shoot them. I noticed that once the warm water runs over my subjects bodies it often relieved them from some of the awkwardness the camera brought about. Manjari Sharma is an iIndian born photographer that now resides in New York City. During the few years after her graduation in 2004 her work has received significant attention, something that it is not surprising given the skill and consistency of her photography.

The new series “The Shower”, combines a number of qualities that make it exceptional. It is about people, it is about moments of intimacy and introspection that arises when the subject is taking a shower. It is the light, gently focalized to enhance the gesture of the moment and conveys a sense of intimacy that enrich the impact of the portrait.

  3. It helps if your friends are all young, attractive, somewhat exotic, and have no inhibitions about taking their clothes off. It”s like an Abercrombie & Fitch Ad or Ryan McGinley shoot. This is pretty lame. I”d rather see what Roger Ballen or Alec Soth would come up with.
