David Hilliard
I learned about the work of David Hilliard while reading the very interesting interview that Michael Werner published recently at his blog, Two Way Lens. It is quite remarkable how the combination of different images to complete a full perspective gives a sense of wholeness that is different from what you could get by blending the images in a continuum. In some ways, the disconnected frames force the viewer to look more carefully around the whole composition rather than focusing only in the main subject.
Photography became a vehicle through which I could navigate and maintain a kind of control. I could order events, categorize friends and places…edit my world. Photography made everything around me look better. It made life clearer. As a boy I felt as though I had very little control over my life. Photography was an antidote. It was my escape. – (David Hilliard) read the interview here.
