Christian Poveda, spanish film maker and photographer, who recently released a documentary about the gangs in El Salvador, La Vida Loca, has been killed by the same people he was documenting. It is a brave world for photographers with the guts to go beyond mainstream media documentaries to raise awareness of important and ignored social situations even when they may put them in danger. Christian Poveda understood that the only way to document and photograph is to become part of the story, and he did so to the extend that he witnessed seven murders while filming the documentary including three members of his film making crew. Now it is himself the one that became the vicim, he is now part of the sad story he fought bravely to share with the world.
