Troy Paiva, painting the night with light
Photographing the light in the absence of light. The work of Troy Paiva is about painting darkness with light, using small portable flash and colored gels, he blends the existing light with his vision to give shape and a new face to abandoned cars and locations.
The results are often times quite compelling, and the mix of colors kind of psychedelic. Off all things, for the play with colored lights to really work, it requires good compositions. An arrangement of subjects and light that balances each other with negative space to guide the visualization to the bright point of focus that should not fully dominating the image.

I was surprised and confused to see your post because I have a book by Tom Paiva, and his working technique is quite similar to the person you posted here. Isn”t this a funny coincidence? Take a look at Tom’’s work too: http://www.tompaiva.com
Troy and Tom Paiva are brothers, and both drawn to night photography.
