Luis Gonzalez Palma
Perhaps one of the most significant photographers in Latin America, Luis Gonzalez Palma from Guatemala. If you visit his website you will find a number of creative series, some better than others but all quite original. The use of traditional aesthetics confers a sort of dated feel to the images. You can read a [ten years old] interview here. His most recent book is “Jerarquias de Intimidad“.
I just try to incorporate the emotion that I have. For example, if you can explain a poem, it is not a poem. Poetry has to be inexplicable. And it is impossible to explain the emotion of the violin from Bach. You can talk about something, but to explain why you feel things . . . you can””t. So I try to have an emotional impact, not with words or sounds, but I try to get these deep emotions from images. – Luis Gonzalez Palma

Speaking of the first photograph of the figure with the head wrap, I enjoy the unsettling ambiguity of the image. I enjoy the positioning of the head, the slight forward slouch of the body, and the vulnerability in the gaze. The figure is very much a representation of a human–not a man or woman specifically. The head wrap could be indicative of a culturally specific, feminine clothing item of some kind, but for me, just as you said, this image is about the feeling. It is about the feeling of the figure, the artist, and the emotions conveyed by the artist’’s portrayal of the figure.
