New York Photo Festival
The New York Photo Festival organized by powerHouse Books and VII Photo Agency is coming soon [May 13-17th].
This is a very new -started last year with great success- and unique Photo Festival. It focuses on a few distinct exhibitions, each organized by a different curator and displayed at different places in the waterfront area of Brooklyn, in the DUMBO area. It promotes and facilitates an open discussion between established artists, upcoming contemporary photographers and influencers in the field. The festival core are four exhibits that this year are curated by William A. Ewing is the Director of the Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne, Switzerland, Chris Boot is an editor and photobook publisher based in London, Jody Quon is Photography Director at New York magazine, Jon Levy is the founder and director of Foto8.
There are a number of interesting opportunities to explore if you have the opportunity to attend, including one of the best portfolio reviews in the USA, the powerHouse Portfolio Review [see form here] with quite an extensive panel of reviewers from book publishers to gallery owners to photo editors. They have the photo awards that is currently open for submission and will provide an impressive exhibit of contemporary photography that will be watched by key influencers in the area, so it is a great opportunity to get a unique exposure.
powerHouse Books is also organizing a number of extremely interesting workshops including:
- Making the book: the edit and sequence
- Marketing your work: Publicity, Promotions, & Sponsorship Opportunities
- Making the book: book design and dummy preparation/presentation
