The work of Blake Fitch has all the components that I love. Simple but interesting images full of life that look spontaneous and fresh. Images that convey the significance of casual moments. Her most remarkable series is ”Expectations of Adolescence”, an interesting and cohesive series documenting over the course of ten years the life through adolescence of her youngest sister and a cousin, pictures that were taken when both girls met at family reunions. I wish we could see the whole project in the future, because the number of images displayed at her website is limited so the story line feels a bit interrupted.
In this project, over a span of nine years, I have explored the physical and emotional changes that accompany this phase [adolescence] of a girl’s life in America. My focus has been on my youngest sister and cousin. I hope to have captured the simple moments in her search for her own identity as it becomes publicly displayed. – Blake Fitch
