Images with no words. Words that are not needed. What is our responsibility?, what is our obligation about Darfur and other genocides? this is something we all need to judge. The possibilities ahead is what matters now. But action, in a world of distraction and personal self-indulgence, doesn’t happen but when the message comes to us loud and unequivocal. Watch and listen to the voice of Lynsey Addario. How is it possible to make beauty in the land of evil? What an amazing work.

I began photographing the conflict in Darfur in August 2004 and have returned for at least one month each year since then, either to Darfur or neighboring Chad, with my most recent trip to West Darfur in February 2008. The Sudanese government restricts journalists’ movements greatly throughout Darfur, so my work would be dictated by the humanitarian situation on the ground and my ability to ascertain permits from the Sudanese Government to contentious areas.-Lynsey Addario
