The work of Virgilio Ferreira speaks with a distinct vision of street photography. Relating the people with the background of the city to create perspectives where the person is both the main subject but it is defined by the surroundings. The combination of color, careful compositions of light and selective focus create a tension between the image, the subject and the viewer.

I feel that the photographic look is a look of discovery and, in the rendering of the fixed image, the world we like to deem apprehensible presents itself draped in mythical references, sometimes more than millenary. Because, after all, the myth is a way of explaining our fears, hallucinations, expectations and desires.- Virgilio Ferreira

Virgilio’s work is exquisite, even when he works commercially, his style to provide a different perspective remains with the image. He has a number of publications, including a self-published book of his excellent series “Daily Pilgrims” that unfortunately I did not figure out how to purchase it.

In an intuitive and random way, I walk by the streets and let myself be attracted by lights, colors, scenes, anonymous people that cross my way and whom I invite to pose. Portraits are made very quickly but, in a rigorous and selective approach, I look to relate person and background. - Virgilio Ferreira
