Tamir Sher
Tamir Sher has very interesting and creative photography. Perhaps the series I like most are “Mars” and “after Mars” although other images from recent work, like the one above, are very beautiful. Here you can read a descriptive essay on these two series.
I’m a thinker. Ninety percent of the time I don’t carry a camera. I see something, think about it, and return with my tools, ready to work. -Tamir Sher
Overall, the diversity of Tamir’s images is surprising and speaks about his creativity to visualize different subjects and create compelling work. Ironically, diversity of images in portfolios [subjects or aesthetics] can have a negative impact making more difficult to relate the photographer with a particular style. Sometimes it is best to limit the images showed in the online portfolio so they convey a tight and cohesive style of work. With this idea, I am left to think that a more selective and tightly edited portfolio would serve well for Tamir to show his excellent work and simultaneously convey a more defined style.
One example of excellence on defining a photographic style is the great Michael Kenna. At his website,or in publications, the style is reflected in each and all of the images. Does anyone think that Michael Kenna only takes images that look like the Kenna style? Of course not, he follows a calculated plan to show only the images that reinforce the association of a style with his name.
A final note to link to Tamir’s blog where you can see one of the more creative series of Tamir, Masters on 45, of which one image was a contender at the Hey, hot shot competition.
