One of the most basic signs of man’s interference with his environment, piles comprise both waste as collected remnants of former structures and objects, and the raw materials that signal the process of redevelopment. Constantly appearing and transforming, these simple structures can suggest a fantastical temporary landscape in the midst and on the edges of our planned urban centres. There is something humorous and almost embarrassing about their crude nature, not only when they reveal the extent of our wastefulness but also when they recall a childish fascination with creative play, now being acted out on a grander scale. -Laurence Ward
